I took a shot from about 180 yds. The doe went down. She started to slide down the icy slope towards the lake. We looked away
to the other does then back at my doe. She got up and ran off. I missed her by a mile. The only reason she went down was
because I startled her and she slipped on the snow and ice. I was so angry with myself for flinching and disappointed.
Two years later, I tried again. No luck.

Dec. 5, 2010, Chris finally had some free time to take me out on the last day of our Missouri doe season. We set ourselves up
on the ground on the edge of a CRP field. BUCKS everywhere! Finally saw the does coming in. Unfortunately there was too
much tall brush between us and the deer. Even though we were standing, I still had no shot that I was comfortable with. The
deer were about 100 yards out. Chris certainly had me set up in an amazing area, shooting sticks all set up for me and my left-
handed ways. The deer kept coming but still no clear shot. We stood there, my 7MM O8 Browning A-Bolt resting on the shooting
sticks, hands and toes freezing now after 3 hours of standing, waiting and watching. For some reason I turned my head away
from the field full of deer to look to my left. There she was, feeding at 45 yards. Then I saw the next deer, antlers on his head.
Oh my and Oh no, this is on my immediate left side. Chris said I’m going to just have to swing around and take my shot. The
buck was putting on his best “look at me honey!” show. My doe finally got wind of us and was starting to turn away and leave. I
swung around, the buck oblivious to anything, put my crosshairs right behind her right shoulder and squeezed off the trigger.
She jumped and ran. I watched the buck run off. I didn’t see where my doe went. Chris did! We gave her time then went to get
her. What!!! No blood trail!!! We went to where Chris thought she was but nothing. We walked just a little bit further and there
she was! Perfect heart shot! WoooHooo!

I was so excited and relieved! Finally I have one deer under my belt. I am so excited to go again with Chrisser and even more so
with my great friend Terri Troyer who has been a great inspiration.
City girl in suits and heels to country girl in
camo and hunter’s orange! I grew up in
the suburbs of Pennsylvania, Virginia,
Georgia then finally Toledo, Ohio. I never
thought my life’s journey would have me
living in the rural area of Centralia, MO
but it did with the meeting of my husband,
Chris Parrish while I was living in St. Louis,
MO.

Chris is an avid hunter and I love the
outdoors. Chris got me hooked on turkey
hunting but I never thought I’d be up to
deer hunting. I just didn’t think I had it in
me to shoot one.

After 11 years of watching Chris head out
again and again for another deer hunt, I
asked if he’d take me doe hunting. He was
shocked, please
d but shocked. The first
doe hunt was cold and exciting. Does
everywhere. Definitely saw the need for
deer management.
